Sheryl Swoopes comes to town to take on the Fury

February 21, 2003 - National Women's Basketball League (NWBL)
Dallas Fury News Release

When people talk hoops the name Michael Jordan usually gets tossed around more then once or twice. When people talk about the Women's game the same can be said about Sheryl Swoopes.

Swoopes has been dazzling not just women's fans but all basketball fans for over a decade. She has helped introduce a lot of people to the excitement that is Women's Professional Basketball.

Swoopes, who attended Texas Tech University, now plays with the Houston Comets of the WNBA and the Houston Stealth of the NWBL.

Swoopes has won on virtually every level. She won the NCAA title in 1993 while at Texas Tech. In that same year she was also named as player of the year by nine organizations, including USA Today and Sports Illustrated.

She has won gold medals in the Olympics in 1996 and 2000. She has four, count them, four WNBA Championship Rings, which were won in the first 4 season of the leagues existence and she won the NWBL Pro Cup last year with the Houston Stealth. Swoopes was also the first Female Basketball player to have her own pair of NIKE shoes to be named after her, "Air Swoopes."

Her accolades as a Basketball player would make anyone's jaw drop. She has done it all. If you don't believe me come check her out as the Houston Stealth takes on the Tennessee Fury on Sunday February 23 at 5 p.m. at Maryville College.

Don't miss out on your chance to see a Basketball legend!
