Sher-Wood/CHL Goaltender of the Month Announced

March 30, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

TEMPE, AZ (March 30, 2011) -The Central Hockey League announced today that John DeCaro of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs has been named the Sher-Wood Central Hockey League Goaltender of the Month for March/2011. DeCaro will receive a Sher-Wood/CHL logoed watch courtesy of Sher-Wood and the Central Hockey League to recognize his accomplishment.

DeCaro won his first four starts of the month before falling in the Mudbugs season finale (a game that had had little bearing on the ‚¬ËœBugs post-season position or aspirations). In March, the Marysville, Washington native went 4-1-0 allowing just nine goals and stopping 133 shots (.937). Most impressive about DeCaro's play in March was the high-profile games in which he succeed. The two-time CHL Most Outstanding Goaltender award winner won back-to-back starts against the Texas Brahmas allowing just one goal in those games (shutout Texas on March 6), won in a shootout in Fort Wayne and made a season-high 49 saves in a 4-2 win at Bloomington.

On the season, the 6-3, 200-pound goalie is 20-12-1 ranking fifth in the league with a 2.61 goals against average. Since the end of January, DeCaro is 10-5-0 with two shutouts allowing three goals or fewer in 12 of those 15 games.

Other players receiving consideration for the monthly award for March include Arizona's Levente Szuper, Bloomington's Brad Phillips, Colorado's Kyle Jones, Dayton's Derek MacIntyre, Evansville's Matt Lundin, Laredo's Torrie Jung, Missouri's Robby Nolan, Odessa's Mike Mole, Rapid City's Danny Battochio and Tulsa's Ian Keserich.
