Shed Long Named FSL Player of the Week

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Florida State League named Shed Long the Player of the Week for August 1-7 on Monday afternoon. Long went 11-for-22 (.500) during the week with two home runs, seven RBI, three extra base hits, and three runs scored. He reached base in more than half of his plate appearances and posted an OPS of 1.406.
Long becomes the fifth Tortuga to win the award this season and second consecutive. Daytona has now had a winner in each month of the season for the first time since 2013. Aristides Aquino won in April, Taylor Sparks in May, Tyler Mahle in June, and most recently Reydel Medina in July.
Long was called up from Dayton (A) on July 27th when INF Blake Butler was placed on the disabled list. He was hitting .281 in Daytona at the time of his promotion, which was tops on the team amongst Dragons with atleast 100 at-bats. Additionally, he was tied for the team-lead in homers and ranked second in RBI when promoted.
Long ended the week in historic fashion, capping it with his first career four hit game Saturday night in a win at Steinbrenner Field. He had multiple hits in four games during the week and multiple RBI in three.
Josh Rogers, of Tampa, won the Pitcher of the Week for the FSL.
The Tortugas welcome in the first place Dunedin Blue Jays Monday night at Radiology Assocaites Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. First pitch of the three game series is schedule for 7:05 PM, with coverage beginning at 6:50 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB. Long is penciled in the starting lineup, batting second for the sixth straight game and playing second base.
