Belleville Bulls News Release
Belleville Bulls defenceman Shawn Lalonde was one of 41 players invited to the Canadian National Junior Team Development Camp being held August 5-10 in Saskatoon. The summer camp is the first step in evaluating potential players for the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship which will take place in Regina and Saskatoon December 26 through January 5, 2010.
Last year, P.K. Subban attended the summer development camp before winning a second consecutive gold medal at the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championship. Players are invited to the camp based on their performance during the 2008- 2009 season along with their play in other international tournaments.
Lalonde completed an excellent third OHL season with the Bulls that saw him break the franchise record for goals in a season by a defenceman. In 66 games played this season, Lalonde scored 19 goals while adding 34 assists and 73 penalty minutes. He then recorded three goals and 12 points in 17 playoff games. The Orleans, Ontario native and Chicago Blackhawks draft pick participated in both the ADT Canada Russia Challenge and the OHL All- Star Classic this past season. He was also selected as the âBest Skater' in OHL Eastern Conference Coaches Poll.
Lalonde previously represented Team Canada at the 2007 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Under 18 Tournament where he led all Canadian defenders with four points in four games in their fourth place finish.
