Rewind the Tape:

4.09.08 - Worcester 1 - Providence 6 - DCU Center

Mike Iggulden cut the Bruins' lead to 3-1 in the third period, but a barrage of penalties whistled against the Sharks led to Providence scoring three power play goals to come out with a 6-1 win on Wednesday evening at the DCU Center. On one third-period scuffle, referee Jamie Koharski called three extra minor penalties on Worcester, and the Bruins capitalized with two 5-on-3 goals and a 5-on-4 tally, all within two minutes of play, which led to the 6-1 defeat.

4.11.08 - Worcester 3 - Portland 2 (OT) - Cumberland Civic Center

Behind rookie Steven Zalewski's first two professional goals, the Worcester Sharks defeated the Portland Pirates for the second straight game, 3-2, in overtime on Friday evening. Zalewski's first tied the game at two midway through the third period while his second gave Worcester the walk-off victory in the extra session. Goaltender Taylor Dakers was impressive in between the pipes, stopping 30 of 32 shots for his first win since Jan. 21.

4.12.08 - Worcester 4 - Lowell 1 - DCU Center

The Worcester Sharks took a mulligan on the game's opening minute and proceeded to dominate the Lowell Devils, using goals from four different skaters to cruise to a 4-1 victory at the DCU Center on Saturday night. Ryan Murphy gave Lowell the 1-0 lead only 33 seconds into the game, but Dennis Packard, Craig Valette, Lukas Kaspar, and Mike Iggulden proceeded with four unanswered goals for the win. Taylor Dakers was named the game's first star, earning his second straight win with 24 saves.

4.13.08 - Worcester 4 - Springfield 2 - DCU Center

For the second straight Sunday, the Worcester Sharks defeated the Springfield Falcons by a final score of 4-2, this time riding a pair of goals from Tom Cavanagh and a strong performance by rookie goaltender Taylor Dakers in front of 6,266 fans on Fan Appreciation Day. The Sharks finish the season on a three-game winning streak and wins in five of the last seven games.

Sharks in the Atlantic...

The Sharks (32-37-5-6) finish the season swimming in sixth place in the Atlantic Division with 75 points, 13 points ahead of the seventh-place Lowell Devils and five behind the fifth-place Springfield Falcons. Worcester finishes 42 points behind the Providence Bruins for the top spot in the Atlantic.

Sharks Bites:

*F Mike Iggulden is tops on the team with 29 goals, 37 assists, and 66 points, and was the Sharks lone representative in the 2008 AHL-All Star Classic in Binghamton, NY.

*Iggulden's 66 points and 37 assists are a new career-high. The old mark was set last season (57 pts: 30g, 27a).

*With defenseman Mike Moore's signing, the Sharks now have six Ivy Leaguers on the roster, joining Tom Cavanagh, David MacDonald, Dennis Packard, and Tom Walsh from Harvard and Iggulden out of Cornell.

*Rookie Steven Zalewski is riding a three-game point streak into the offseason. He also had multiple points in two consecutive games: two goals on Friday at Portland and two assists on Saturday vs. Lowell.

*Derek Joslin recorded a second-period assist on Sunday, good for a five-game assist (and point) streak, which set a new season-high in both categories.

*Iggulden ends the season on a five-game point streak. He also scored a goal in five of the last eight games.

*Lukas Kaspar tied his season-high with two assists on Sunday vs. the Falcons, marking the fourth time that has happened (three against Springfield).

*Also on Sunday, .Cavanagh tied his season-high with two goals (accomplished on two other occasions).

*Worcester scored only 22 seconds into its first power play vs. the Falcons and only 12 seconds into its second. Later in the game, Springfield lit the lamp only 12 seconds into its second man advantage.

*After 11 fights in the first six games of the Springfield season series, there were none in the final four.

*The Sharks finish the season with shorthanded goals in four of the final six games after having six in the first 74.

*Worcester had a shorthanded and power play goal in the same game (Saturday) for only the fifth time all season

* T.J. Fox was credited with two assists against Lowell marking his first multi-assist game of the season (and his career).

*Frazer McLaren's first period assist on Friday was his first professional point.

*The third period fight between MacDonald and Bootland on Friday was the first in the Portland season series since Nov. 17 (game three of the season series).

*Two Sharks rookies got into their first professional fights over the weekend: MacDonald on Friday and Moore on Saturday.

*The 40 penalty minutes between Lowell and Worcester on Saturday was the most in the season series.

*On Wednesday vs. Providence, Goaltender Taylor Dakers was credited with an assist on Iggulden's goal, his first professional point. It was not the first time a Sharks goaltender has been credited with a point this season: Dimitri Patzold has two assists.

Roster Moves:

*Goaltender Taylor Dakers was reassigned to Worcester from Phoenix (ECHL) on Monday while fellow netminder Thomas Greiss was recalled to San Jose on Tuesday. Defenseman Mike Moore was then signed to an ATO on Thursday.

Worcester to host the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic!

American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced that the Worcester Sharks and the city of Worcester have been awarded the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic. The event will take place at the DCU Center in January, 2009. The 2009 event in Worcester will mark the fourth time since it was revived in 1995 that the AHL All-Star Classic will take place in New England. The AHL All-Star Game was last held in Massachusetts in 1959 at the Eastern States Coliseum in West Springfield.
