Sharks Use Bullpen to Close out Shootout

Holly Springs, North Carolina-The Wilmington Sharks made all the right moves in their fourth straight win Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Holly Springs Salamanders in a 9-8 shootout at Ting Stadium.
The victory improved the Sharks to 6-2 in the second half of the season.
The fireworks began when Chad Fairey singled home Noah Bridges to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Salamanders answered right back in the bottom of the inning with two runs to take the lead 2-1. The Salamanders added another run in the second on an RBI triple by Itchy Burts to go up 3-1.
Clemente Inclan led off the top of the fourth with a solo home run cutting it to 3-2. After Aaron McKeithan drew his first of four walks on the game, Cam Jenson hit a two-run home run to put the Sharks on top. Jonah Beamon followed with a double and advanced to third on a single by Bridges. Cory Everett drove home Beamon on a fielder's choice play ending the day for Salamander's starter Tom Gugliomello. Fairey greeted Salamander reliever Tyler Vogel with a two-run home run to make it 7-3 Sharks.
The Salamanders began a two-out rally in the bottom of the inning when Burts and Ian Bailey hit back-to-back singles. Liam Hicks came up and hit a three-run home run cutting it to 7-6. The Sharks added a run in the sixth and a run in the seventh with a pair of sacrifice flies to go up 9- 6.
With one out and a runner on second in the bottom of the ninth, Chris Crabtree hit a two-run home run to cut the Sharks lead back to one. Sharks reliever Troy Britts then struck out Charlie Benson on three pitches to end the game.
The Sharks got another masterful performance out of their bullpen. After starter Colin Kennedy's four innings of work in which he allowed six runs, reliever Landen Wright came in and pitched six-up-six- down in the fifth and sixth. He left in the seventh with two outs and runners at the corners. Britts replaced him and got out of the jam on his way to a seven out save.
The Sharks will return to the Shark Tank Wednesday evening for a double header with the Edenton Steamers. It is Jaws-N-Paws Night presented by Wave Transit, a Carosel Center non-profit. The gates will open at 5:00PM for a 6:05PM first pitch in game one. Game two will begin approximately thirty minutes after the conclusion of game one.
