
Sharks Unable to Overcome Another Slow Start

Hampton, VA-The Wilmington Sharks got off to another rough start Wednesday night in an 11-5 loss to the Peninsula Pilots at War Memorial Stadium.
After leaving the bases loaded in the first, the Pilots picked up from where they left off in the second when Matt Burch led off with a single. He advanced to third when Sy Snedeker hit a double. Cole Girouard drove home Burch on a fielder's choice play putting the Pilots on the board. With two outs, Tommy Bell doubled home Snedeker and Girouard to make it 3-0.
The Pilots loaded the bases with nobody out in the third. A wild pitch allowed a run to score to make it 4-0. Brandon Schrepf then reached on a fielding error by Sharks second baseman Jonah Beamon resulting in another run. Girouard reached a ground ball when Sharks catcher Aaron Mckeithan overthrew first allowing two more runs to score making it 7-0 Peninsula. With two outs and the bases loaded, Kyle Battle drew a walk to make it 8-0. Peninsula added an additional three runs in the fourth to go up 11-0.
Jakob Plastiak was the bright spot for the Sharks. He hit a two-run double in the fifth to put the Sharks on the board. When his spot came up again in the seventh, he hit a two-run home run to trim the deficit to 11-4. Corey Everett hit a solo home run for the Sharks to lead off the eighth and cut it to 11-5 but they would not get any closer.
The Sharks will be back in action Thursday night against the Edenton Steamers from Historic Hicks Field. Alex Havlicek will start on the mound for the Sharks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM. The Sharks will return to Buck Hardee Field on Saturday June 8th against the Fayetteville SwampDogs.
The first 500 fans into the stadium will receive a free Sharks hat presented by Pepsi. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM with the gates opening at 6:00PM.
