Sharks Swept in Doubleheader

As the second half winds down, opportunities are running short in the East Division. Entering the day the Sharks were two games behind Morehead City in the second half. The gap to the top grew even larger after Wilmington (14-29, 7-11) was swept by Fayetteville (21-21, 8-9).
In game one, the SwampDogs were on the board first. With two outs in the second, Brett Young singled home Logan Jarvis put the visitors on top.
Fayetteville added to the lead in the fifth. The SwampDogs would score two runs, on three hits, and two Sharks' errors to extend the lead to 3-0. In the ensuing Wilmington at bat, Paxton Wallace notched his second homer of the summer on a solo shot to left field.
In the seventh, the Sharks made a furious charge with two outs. Ward Coleman walked and was pinch run for by Ben LaSpaluto. Then Dan Wilson singled after a LaSpaluto stolen base to make it 3- 2. Ayden Karraker and Zach Bridges both reached to loaded bases with two outs down one. However, a Wil Hoyle strikeout ended the contest as the Sharks fell in game one.
Jared Crews (1-2) started and went five innings to win. Sam Luchansky (3-4) threw a complete game and struck out four while allowing three runs, two earned on eight hits. Jimmy Reardon, despite loading the bases, earned his first save.
In game two, it was a pitcher's duel between Austin Todd and Harry Thomas (1-1). Thomas threw a complete game shutout, allowing two hits while striking out 11 Sharks. Meanwhile, Austin Todd was perfect through four innings before being replaced by Andrew Kaminsky (3-2).
In the fifth, Fayetteville scored the only two runs of the game against Kaminsky. With two outs, Nate Monastra, Jay Hayes and Trevor Hafner combined for three straight hits to score two.
Wilmington struggled throughout game two, striking out at least once in all seven innings.
The Sharks are now 7-11 in the second half, three games behind Holly Springs. The Salamanders are in Wilmington for a doubleheader on Saturday.
