Wilmington Sharks News Release
WILMINGTON, N.C. - Today the Wilmington Sharks announced the signing of four Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles. Zach Stephens will make his return to Wilmington and be joined by three first year Sharks; infielder Dylan Bosheers, and pitchers Seth Lucio and John Gora for the 2013 season.
Stephens, the 6-0, 220-pound, junior from Hixson, Tennessee looks to build on a strong 2012 season with the Sharks in which he had a batting average of .261 and led the Sharks in home runs, with four, and finished second on the team with 18 RBIs.
Stephens was also a dominant force during the 2012 season with his Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, leading the team with a .368 batting average. Stephens' 18 home runs, 52 RBIs and 44 runs scored also led the team. His impressive sophomore season earned him several honors including 2013 Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Co-Player of the Year and 2013 NCBWA Preseason Third-Team All-American.
Dylan Bosheers finished his freshman season with the Golden Eagles with four home runs, 34 RBIs and 36 runs scored. The right-handed hitting infielder's strong season allowed the 6-0, 180-pound Lawrenceburg, Tennessee native to be named to the 2012 OVC All-Freshman Team.
Right-handed pitcher Seth Lucio also joins the Sharks following a strong freshman campaign with the Golden Eagles. The 5-10, 173-pound sophomore finished the season with a 3-2 record, 60 strikeouts and a total of 48.2 innings pitched. In 2012, the Locust Grove, Georgia native was named the OVC Pitcher of the Week following an 8.1 inning, 11 strike out performance in which he allowed only five hits and one earned run.
John Gora, who recently transferred to the Golden Eagles from Lakeland Community College, will also take the mound for the Sharks in 2013. The former Lakeland Lakers ace will join the Sharks on the heels of an excellent 2012 season that saw the left-hander finished 6-3 on the year. The Youngstown, Ohio native had a team-best 2.53 ERA. The 5-11 sophomore also led the Lakers with 63 strikeouts, including an eight-strikeout, complete-game victory. Gora was the lone freshman to receive 2012 OCCAC All-Conference honors.
"We're excited to have Zach back in Wilmington this year," said Sharks head coach Ryan McCleney. "His leadership and consistency at the plate will be an integral part of our push to return to the Petitt Cup playoffs for the third straight season. Seth, John and Dylan will play a big part in our goal of bringing the Petitt Cup Championship back to Wilmington."
