Sharks pound Bears, 13-7

CAMDEN-The Riversharks hit five homeruns, batting around in both the 4th and 8th innings, en route to a 13-7 win over the Newark Bears on Monday night, before 2,475 fans at Campbell's Field.

Trailing 1-0 in the 2nd, Camden got on the board when Dwight Maness launched a 2-run homerun to left (11), off Newark starter Andy Zwirchitz. Three batters later, Troy Cameron put the Riversharks in front 3-1, with an opposite field homerun over the wall in right (3). Zwirchitz struggled all night, allowing seven runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work. He took the loss, falling to 4-6 on the season.

Leading 3-2 in the 4th, LJ Biernbaum led off with the first of two homeruns on the night. Later in the inning, Richie Barrett delivered a big blow, ripping a 2-run double to left, that put the Riversharks in front 6-2. Barrett was one of many stars on this night for Camden, going 4-6 with two runs scored.

Brett Laxton turned in another solid outing on the mound for the Riversharks, who improved to 2-2 in the season's second half. Laxton (5-2) gave up four runs (two earned) on seven hits in 6.2 innings.

Camden put the game out of reach in the 8th, scoring six times off reliever Manny Bermudez. Guy Lynam hit his 5th homer of the year, a bomb to dead center and LJ Biernbaum capped the scoring with a 2-run shot to right (9). Camden took advantage of three Newark errors in the inning, two by catcher Tom McGee.

The game was delayed 22 minutes in the bottom of the 5th inning when the lights went out at Campbell's Field.

Norm Hutchins and Keith Maxwell each collected three hits for Newark.
