
Sharks Play Host to Catawba Valley Monday Night

Wilmington, N.C. - The Catawba Valley Stars came away with a 5-0 victory over the Wilmington Sharks in an exhibition game on Monday night.
Catawba Valley tallied up 10 hits in the ball game and started things off early in the first when Matt De La Rosa reached safely on a double down the left field line and eventually scored to give CV the 1-0 lead. The Stars picked up a run in the second inning and three more runs in the seventh and ninth inning to come away with a 5-0 win.
The Wilmington Sharks tallied six hits in the game and had runners in scoring position in the third, fourth and fifth but were unable to score any runs. The Sharks pitchers did a good job on the hill as they picked up a combined eight strike outs during the contest.
The Sharks welcome the Martinsville Mustangs to town on Tuesday night as the contest is slated for 7:05 p.m.
The Wilmington Sharks are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1000 alumni drafted and 62 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their major league debut so far.
