
Sharks Lose Lead Late, Fall in Extras

The Wilmington Sharks' (21-13, 5-2) held the lead for most of Saturday night's contest, but failed to close out the game and fell 5-4 to the Morehead City Marlins (17-14, 3-1).
The first two batters reached base for the Sharks in the top of the first inning, and Alec Bohm (Wichita State) hit his ninth home run over the season to give the Sharks a 3-0 lead. Bohm came through again in the fifth inning with an RBI double, and would end up driving all four of the Sharks runs
The Marlins got one back on a solo home run in the fifth, and came close to adding more in the sixth. They loaded the bases with no outs, but Ethan Wortkoetter (Presbyterian) entered the game and struck out three in a row to end the inning. The break through came in the seventh, when a RBI single and a sacrifice fly scored two, and made the score 4-3. Finally, the Marlins tied the game in the ninth on an error and won in the 10th on a sacrifice fly.
The win went to Tad Ratliff (1-1). He threw one and one third of an inning, with no hits, no runs, no walks and three strikeouts. Cody Tyler (3-1) took the loss, pitching two and two thirds innings, allowing two runs on two hits, three walks and three strikeouts.
Six Sharks can be seen in the All Star game in Fayetteville, NC, on Monday.
