Sharks Lose in Fayetteville

June 28, 2018 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilmington Sharks News Release

Looking to make a late comeback for the second game in a row, Wilmington (7-16) fell into too deep of a hole on the road in Fayetteville (12-11). However, the eight run deficit was too much as the SwampDogs prevailed 8-3.

Sharks starter Dylan Gibeau (0-3) came out and tossed a perfect first two innings, striking out two SwampDogs. From that point though, the Fayetteville offense took over.

The SwampDogs went on to score in five straight innings, including three in the third to get things rolling. In the third, Fayetteville combined for three hits but did leave two stranded against Gibeau.

The 'Dogs added one in the fourth and then capitalized on the first of three Sharks' errors in the fifth. Then again in the sixth, it was two errors on one play that allowed Fayetteville to take a 6-0.

In the seventh, the SwampDogs put together five more hits to score two runs and hold a commanding 8-0 lead heading to the eighth.

The Sharks finally found a way onto the scoreboard in the eighth inning. After a single through the left side, Paxton Wallace came around to score on three separate wild pitches to make the score 8- 1.

In the ninth, Tyler Jackson had seen enough and went into his pitch staff for a couple pinch hitters. Interestingly enough, Andrew Kaminsky, Eddie Hiott and Sam Luchansky produced the most offense for the Sharks all night. Kaminsky walked, followed by a Hiott single. Then with one out, Sam Luchansky put a ball in play and thanks to a SwampDogs error; two runs came home to score.

After the game Coach Jackson said, "I wanted to send a wake up call to my hitters for the rest of the summer."

DJ Moore (1-0) was the winning pitcher, while Dylan Gibeau lost for the third time.

The Sharks are now 1-11 when allowing six or more runs. Wilmington has lost 13 of its last 15 contests.

Next up, the Sharks return home to face the Florence RedWolves for another Fireworks Friday at the Shark Tank. Gates open at 6 and first pitch tomorrow is at 7:05. You can watch tomorrow's contest here: portal.stretchinternet.com/cplsharks/
