Sharks Ink Two Georgia Bulldogs

Martha's Vineyard Sharks News Release


The Martha's Vineyard Sharks sign two freshmen pitchers from the University of Georgia; Jay Swinford and Joseph Withrow.

Swinford is a graduate of Clarke Central where he batted .441 with 3 home runs and 20 RBI as a senior. He posted a .514 on-base percentage and .634 slugging percentage in 2010. Swinford also registered a 6-5 record on the mound with a 3.85 ERA in 53 innings pitched. He pitched two complete games, one no-hitter and had two saves. Swinford was named 2010 Most Outstanding Pitcher and Team Captain for Clarke Central. He was a member of 2010 Team Georgia and a First Team All-Region selection and was named a Northeast Georgia All-Star in 2009 and 2010.

Withrow is a graduate of The Westminster Schools where he went 17-9 with 5 saves and 159 strikeouts in 154.2 innings pitched in his prep career. Withrow also earned the Best Pitcher Award as a sophomore and junior and named MVP as a senior. Hit .422 with 9 home runs and 36 RBI as a senior. Named Georgia Dugout Club preseason All-State pitcher and to the All-Area team as a senior. He played summer baseball for the East Cobb Patriots, East Cobb Titans and East Cobb Astros.
