Wilmington Sharks News Release

After snapping their seven game win streak a night ago, the Wilmington Sharks (11-7) got back on the right foot on Monday night. The Sharks had no trouble downing the Petersburg Generals (6-11) by a score of 9-4.

The Sharks got on the board early, as the third batter of the game, Ryan Jeffers (UNC Wilmington), drove a triple off the wall that brought home two. He later scored on a wild pitch. They struck again in the second inning, when Cletis Avery (Presbyterian) hit a two RBI single and later scored on a groundout. Ward Coleman (Davidson) also contributed a RBI single of his own.

Petersburg got one back in the sixth, but the Sharks offense started up again in the seventh. Alec Bohm (Wichita State) hit his sixth homer of the year, and Chris Graham (UNC Greensboro) drove in a run on an RBI double. Petersburg added three runs in the bottom of the inning, but were kept off the board the rest of the game.

The win went to Mike Castellani (5-1). He was perfect through three, and pitched six innings with a run on two hits, three walks and struck out three. Anthony Hunter (1-1) took the loss, pitching five innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits, striking out two.

The Sharks get the day off on Tuesday, and will return home to host Asheboro and Holly Springs on Wednesday and Thursday.
