
Sharks Fall to End Homestand

In eight of the nine innings tonight, Wilmington (5-4) left runners stranded on the bases. The Sharks and Steamers combined to leave 22 total runners on the base paths. The difference, Edenton (2-6) had two big innings to top the Sharks 7-1.
The visitors struck first in the third against Wilmington's starter Caleb Bishop (0-1). With one out, Edenton reached on back-to-back singles before Wil Hoyle misplayed a ground to short. The Sharks first error allowed a run to score with one out. Then, Rich Ciufo doubled home a run to make it 2-0 and put runners on second and third. The Steamers added one more to take a 3-0 lead on the road.
In the fourth, Wilmington loaded the bases with one out but failed to push a run across. At one point, the Sharks were 0-9 with runners in scoring position.
In the seventh, the Sharks finally got on the board against R.D Lutze (1-0). Ben Anderson singled, followed by a Noah Liles walk to chase Lutze from the contest. The next batter, Paxton Wallace knocked his third single of the night to right to score Anderson from second. Wilmington went on to strand its 10th runner of the game trailing 3-1.
In the ninth, Edenton added four more again capitalizing on a Sharks error. With one out, Anthony Warneke reached on an error by Ayden Karraker to spark the inning. The Steamers went on to load the bases leading 4-1. With two outs, Devon Gardner cleared the bases on a triple to right and Edenton lead 7-1.
In the bottom of the inning, Wilmington had two reach, but left them stranded to leave a total of 12 on the base paths against Edenton.
Friday night's uniforms are still available for auction until Sunday, June 10th at noon. The Sharks wore jerseys to honor the Port City Roosters and those game worn jerseys are being auctioned off to benefit the Wilmington Firefighters Association. Next up, the Sharks are off tomorrow and then head to Morehead City on Monday. First pitch is set for 7:05 on Monday against the Marlins and the Sharks Pregame Show begins at 6:50.
