Sharks Fall in Extras

Wilmington Sharks News Release


Wilmington, North Carolina - Pearce Howard hit a two-run triple to begin the top of the tenth inning Monday night at Buck Hardee Field. His triple gave the Fayetteville SwampDogs a 10-8 lead over the Wilmington Sharks. Both runners began the inning on base due to extra inning rules. With one out, Will Karp singled him home to make it 11-8. The Sharks failed to score in the bottom of the inning to fall to 7-15 on the season.

The Sharks had a 7-3 lead entering the top of the sixth. The SwampDogs loaded the bases with one out knocking Sharks starter Noah Takac out of the game. Alex Fenton came on in relief and struck out KC Brown for the second out. The next five SwampDog hitters reached base giving them an 8-7 lead. The Sharks responding in the bottom of the inning when James Parker led off with a single. He advanced to second on a groundout and scored on another groundout thanks to heads up base running to tie the game at eight.

After Takacs retired the first batter he faced to begin the game, the SwampDogs scored three runs before Takacs could make out number two to take the early 3-0 lead. Steven Curry led off the bottom of the inning with a walk. A double by Jacob Plastiak advanced him to third. Clemente Inclan followed with a double scoring both runners trimming it to 3-2. With one out, Chad Fairey singled home Inclan tying the game at three.

The Sharks added more in the second when Tucker Greer and Curry led off with back-to-back singles. Plastiak hit a sacrifice fly to advance them to second and third. Inclan singled home Greer to give the Sharks the lead. Curry then came in to score on a balk call to give the Sharks a 5-3 lead. The Sharks added another run in the third and another in the fifth to go up 7-3.

The Sharks and the SwampDogs will be back in action Tuesday night at JP Riddle Stadium in Fayetteville. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM.

The Sharks will return to the Shark Tank Thursday night against the Holly Springs Salamanders. It is Thirsty Thursday featuring $1 beers presented by 98.7 Coastal Carolinas Modern Rock. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM with the gates opening at 6:00PM.
