Sharks Early Season Problems Persist
January 23, 2011 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release
Rochester was swept in its two game Premier Basketball League Canada swing. The RazorSharks lost at Quebec 114-102.
It was the same old story for Rochester, which fell behind 13 points by halftime. A second half rally brought the Sharks from down as many as 19, to within four. In their six games, Rochester has been outscored in the first half in five of them. Rochester owns a second half edge in five of those same six games.
"We never start well as a team," said Melvin Council who scored 17 points off the bench for the Sharks. "We don't trust each other until we're down."
"We play well for the first 21 of a 24 second possession," said assistant coach Chris Iverson. "But we don't play the last three or four seconds."
Rochester turned the ball over 24 times. The team is last in the league in that regard.
In five of his nine PBL games so far, former Syracuse University forward Louie McCroskey has averaged nine points per game for Quebec. Against Rochester, McCroskey has scored 22 and on Sunday afternoon, 21 points. That was game high for the now 5-2 Kebs.
The Sharks (2-4) had five in double figures led by Keith Friel who scored 18. Jared Carter had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
For the RazorSharks, who won two of the first three Premier Basketball League championships, and were playoff finalists last year, the start to this season has been sobering. Rochester has never been 2-4.
Four of the team's first six games have been on the road. They stay on the road for the next two. The Sharks play at Halifax next Sunday.
