Sharks Drop 3rd Straight

For the third game in a row Wilmington (5-6) struggled at the plate, this time against Fayetteville (4-5). The Sharks went just 3-21 with two runs batted in where there was a runner on base in the 7-2 loss to the SwampDogs.

The visitors jumped on the board first scoring twice in the top of the second. With two on and two outs, Alex Garland dropped a single into left to put Fayetteville on top 2-0.

Then in the fifth, the SwampDogs added to the lead. Brett Young singled home a run to make it 3-0. In the sixth, Fayetteville third baseman Tyler Shuck launched a two run shot to left to make the lead 5-0.

In the bottom of the inning, the Sharks finally got on the board against Blake Schriever (2-0). Logan Mathieu picked up his first hit and his first RBI with a two out single to make it 5-1.

The Dogs added two more though off of Seth Chestnut in the seventh to expand the lead back to 7- 1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Wilmington plated a second run on Noah Liles first RBI single of the summer with two outs.

Fayetteville's starter Blake Schriever earned his second win of the summer against the Sharks tossing seven innings, allowing just the two runs on six hits while striking out five. Bryce Cota (0-1) picked up the loss going 4.1 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits with four strikeouts.

The Sharks are currently in the midst of three game skid and are being outscored 21-6 in those three contests.
