Joliet JackHammers News Release

JOLIET, IL-Joliet JackHammers right-handed starting pitcher Nate Sevier has been named Northern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 24. Sevier went 1-0 with a 1.10 ERA in two starts this past week for the JackHammers, including pitching a complete game four-hit shutout against the Schaumburg Flyers on June 19. Sevier becomes the second JackHammer in as many weeks to earn league honors after Juan Diaz earned Northern League Player of the Week honors last Monday. The JackHammers take on the Gary SouthShore RailCats tonight in game two of a three-game series at 7:05 p.m. at Silver Cross Field.

Sevier pitched the JackHammers second complete game of the 2007 season when he helped the JackHammers to a 4-0 victory over the Schaumburg Flyers at ALEXIAN Field on June 19. Sevier scattered four hits over nine innings and walked just one man while striking out seven.

On June 24, Sevier took the hill against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Silver Cross Field and allowed two runs on six hits in seven and one-thirds innings pitched. He got a no-decision even though he left the game with a 3-2 lead in the eighth inning. Sevier gave up six hits, walked zero and struck out six Goldeyes hitters.

Loose Gravel: Three JackHammers players have now won Northern League weekly honors. 1B/3B Derek Nicholson won Northern League Player of the Week Honors for the week ending May 27. This is the first time a JackHammers pitcher has won "Pitcher of the Week" in 2007.

The JackHammers continue their home stand tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
