Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LAKE ELSINORE, CA - One big inning made all the difference for the Lancaster JetHawks Saturday night in Lake Elsinore. A three-run homer from Brandon Barnes helped lead to seven runs in the sixth inning for the JetHawks. It was the only inning in which they'd score but it was more than enough. Ross Seaton hurled seven strong innings and the JetHawks beat the Storm 7-3. Lancaster has won six games in a row, their longest winning streak since 2008.
The home run from Barnes was his 22nd of the season and 34th home run since joining the JetHawks last year. He is now tied for fifth place on the Lancaster all-time home run list. His homer Saturday night tied him with Peanut Williams, who hit 34 home runs between the 1999 and 2000 seasons. With one more home run, Barnes would tie for fourth with former teammate Jon Gaston, who set the team single-season mark with 35 homers in 2009.
The starting pitchers dominated the first five innings. Ross Seaton made allowed just one run and one hit while Storm starter Rob Musgrave struck out eight batters without surrendering a run.
Once Musgrave left the game, however, the JetHawks pounced. John Curtis singled to start the sixth inning and was standing on third base with two outs. Jose Altuve singled Curtis home to tie the score. Jonathan Villar then walked, setting up the home run from Barnes that gave Lancaster the lead. An error continued the inning and the JetHawks took advantage with Andy Simunic singling home a run and Curtis, in his second at bat of the inning, doubling home two more runs.
Seaton continued to pitch well, escaping from a few jams along the way. He gave up just two runs over seven strong innings and picked up his sixth win, tying Shane Wolf for the team lead. Curtis continued a remarkable run with three more hits. He has a hit in 11 of his last 13 trips to the plate. Lee Cruz had his hit streak snapped after 20 games.
The JetHawks will try to make it a perfect road trip with a sweep of the Storm Sunday afternoon in Lake Elsinore. Robert Donovan (0-2) will pitch for Lancaster against the Storm's Jeremy McBryde (2-3). The game begins at 5:05 and will be broadcast live online at JetHawks.com/CSN and on radio at NewsTalk 1380. The Pre-Game Show begins at 5:00.
