Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Stone Crabs rallied for seven runs in the top of the fourth Saturday, jumping Jupiter to claim the series with a 9-4 win at Charlotte Sports Park.
The seven-run frame was the most for the Stone Crabs (14-15) in any inning this year. Their nine runs were also a season high.
With the Hammerheads (8-19) leading 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Moises Gomez ripped a single up the middle. Jupiter starter Will Stewart (1-2) then walked three batters in a row, with the final one pushing across Gomez to make it 3-1. With the bases loaded, Seaver Whalen cranked a grand slam out to left to give the Stone Crabs a 5-3 lead.
Stewart then walked Jonathan Aranda before being lifted for Alex Mateo. Vidal Brujan greeted Mateo with a two-run shot to right to extend the Charlotte lead to 7-3.
The Hammerheads rallied for three hits in the fifth, but Stone Crabs right-hander Tobias Myers (1-1) limited the damage to one run. Myers went 4.1 innings of one-run ball, striking out a season-high five to notch his first High-A win.
The Stone Crabs added two runs in the bottom of the eighth on an Aranda single, two walks and two Hammerheads errors. Aranda reached base all four times Saturday, lining a season-high three hits.
Charlotte will look to sweep the series at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Tommy Romero (1-0, 1.93) will make the start for Charlotte against Jordan Holloway (1-1, 3.07) of Jupiter. Coverage begins at 12:15 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
