Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Gary South Shore RailCats got off to a fast start Thursday night in Sioux Falls but it was not enough as the Canaries won the series finale 11-7 to split the four game series. The RailCats finished the road trip at 2-5 and saw their two game winning streak halted by the Canaries.
The RailCats wasted no time getting on the board in the first off of Kyle Ruwe. Drew Martinez doubled with one out and went to third on a wild pitch. With the infield drawn in Zac Mitchell followed with an infield single off of the foot of Ruwe to score Martinez. Mitchell then would steal second with Craig Maddox batting. Maddox then singled and runners were at the corners. Wally Backman then walked to load the bases for Cody Bishop. The RailCats left fielder brought a run home with a fielders choice to the right side of the infield to make it 2-0 RailCats. The South Shore added another on a Josh Romanski ground out to second and it was 3-0.
But Sioux City came back with a five spot in the home half of the fifth. Carlos Mendez singled and came home on a Chris Valencia RBI double to make it 3-1. Matt Hitt then reached on a error by Bougher on a sac bunt attempt. Bougher was able to get two outs with one out bringing home a run on a fielders choice to close the gap to 3-2. Steve Tinoco added an RBI single to make to tie the game then the Canaries got a two run homerun from Brandon Jones to take the lead and never look back.
Matt Hitt hit a solo shot in the fourth to make it 6-3 but the RailCats earsed that run in the top of the next inning when Drew Muren homered for the second consecutive night and the Canaries lead was 6-4. The Canaries would chase Bougher in the fifth with a one out walk by Chris Duffy. He would come home on a double by Carlos Mendez and Sioux Falls was up 7-4. The Canaries got a single and an error from the RailCats to make it 9-4. An inning later Sioux Falls made it 11-4 with another Mendez double and another RailCats error.
The RailCats would chip away again in the seventh when Danny Pulfer hit a two run homer to left and the RailCats trailed 11-6 and added another run in the eighth with an RBI from Ryan Brockett but the RailCats would not get any closer. Ruwe (4-4) picked up the win while Bougher (3-3) was the loser for Gary. The RailCats open a three game weekend series with the St. Paul Saints Friday night at 7:10pm at US Steel Yard.
