Seven Former Steamwheelers saw action in Week 5 of AFL

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Week 5 of the AFL on NBC continued to get better for seven former Quad City Steamwheelers. All saw action and making the biggest splash was former Steamwheelers defensive specialist Brent Browner.

Browner made the most of his first appearance in the AFL this season on Sunday. Browner, a defensive specialist for the Austin Wranglers, led the team in tackles with seven on their way to a 56-55 victory over the Carolina Cobras. His teammate, offensive lineman/defensive lineman Jamarr Ward helped the cause for the Wranglers as well recording a tackle.

A trio of former Steamwheelers saw action for the Las Vegas Gladiators on Sunday in their 55-40 loss to the Georgia Force. Wide receiver/defensive back Dennison Robinson had two receptions for 24 yards along with having one tackle on defense. He added two kick returns for 39 yards.

Fullback/linebacker Frank Carter tallied three tackles on the defensive side of the ball for the Gladiators.

Wide Receiver/linebacker Jeremy Wilkinson carried the ball once for seven yards and recorded one tackle on defense.

Ira Gooch, a wide receiver/linebacker for the New Orleans VooDoo, had one tackle in a 55-43 win over the Tampa Bay Storm.

Offensive lineman/defensive lineman Tim McGill saw action for the New York Dragons in their 64-50 win over the San Jose SaberCats. McGill recorded one tackle for the Dragons.

Several players have moved on to the NFL from the af2 including the ‘Wheelers standout defensive rush end in 2003, Asa Francis, who last month signed with the Buffalo Bills to play in NFL Europe this spring.
