Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts fell 9-5 in Thursday night's meeting with the New Britain Bees at Fitton Field.
The win moves New Britain to 28-21 while the 'Hearts drop to 19-29.
New Britain took a lead they would not surrender with a five-run first inning. After the Bees loaded the bases, Mark Coley (URI) walked to bring in Jake Blinstrub (Georgia Southwestern). An error would clear the bases, scoring Joel Lara (Franklin Pierce), Tyler Pettorini (Ohio State), and Coley. A groundout by Elliot Good (Central Connecticut State) scored Jason Claiborn (Eastern Connecticut State) to cap off the inning.
The Bravehearts got on the board in the bottom of the second when David Pedanou (Dayton) drove in Cam Seymour (Southern Maine) on an infield single.
New Britain extended their lead in the top of the third thanks to a two-run home run by Coley that also drove in Colton Shaw (Yale).
The 'Hearts put up another run across in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch, allowing Gavin Noriega (Marist) to score. Two more runs scored in the bottom of the fourth. Sebastian Mexico (Fordham) scored on an RBI single by Noriega, with Pedanou coming home on a throwing error.
New Britain scored again in the sixth, with an error allowing Blinstrub in. The Bees capped off their scoring in the top half of the ninth, when Coley came in on another throwing error.
The Bravehearts' final run came across in the bottom of the eighth, when an RBI double by Lewis Barnum (Bryant) scored Seymour.
The winning pitcher was New Britain's Bryan Kraus (URI). In three innings, the righty gave up no runs, no hits and no walks while striking out six. The loss went to Bravehearts starter Sean Scanlon (Holy Cross). Scanlon gave up seven runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out five in three innings.
