Seven 3 - Pointers From Washington Too Much For Duece Duece

North Texas Fresh News Release
FORT WORTH - The North Texas Fresh offense received a big boost Saturday evening with the lights out shooting of Josh Washington.
Washington helped push the Fresh over Duece - Deuce with a 92 - 84 overtime win.
Washington showed that a dislocated finger would not slow down his offensive performance. He finished the game with a game-high 27 points with 7 coming from beyond the arc.
"We have very talented players that have the skill set to do great things on the basketball court," said Jay Bowdy, Owner/CEO of North Texas Fresh. "Because of this we have high expectations for the upcoming season."
Washington and the rest of the Fresh had their hands full as Duece - Duece is loaded with talent, including shooting guard Marvin Gentry; who was a previous North Texas Fresh Training Camp prospect.
Gentry struggled as Bowdy forced different Fresh defenders to apply loads of pressure on Gentry's offensive touches.
"He is a great player with the ball in his hands, but I know how to contain him," stated Bowdy. "We've played together as teammates and opponents since we were teenagers so I know his style of play and we did very well against him."
Maurice Williams became the man on the job to keep Gentry from being a force by forcing two big turnovers late in the game. "Maurice played his heart out and left everything he had out on the floor," said Coach Charles Hill. "I love a guy that has the heart and the passion to go mono-e-mono with a great offensive player and successfully shut him down.
Gentry finished with 11 points.
The Fresh, who had given up 115 points in their 1st game, held Duece - Duece to 84 points with hard-nosed defense. It looked as if a 100 point scoring mark would hit the scoreboard as the Fresh had trouble making adjustments on defense giving up basket after basket on the defensive end.
With overtime being the turn-out, Bowdy consistently made substitution moves to keep Duece - Duece guessing on both ends of the court. J.R. Duffey and Ralph Johnson showed great chemistry connecting with each other in overtime on two occasions to build a lead that Duece Duece could not overcome. Duffey finished with 15 points and 7 rebounds, while Johnson finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds.
North Texas Fresh now are 2 - 0 in the pre season and will have their hands full as they face the West Texas Whirlwind on the road next Saturday for their 1st official game of the regular season. The Fresh are scheduled to play on the 29th against the Houston Gladiators for their 1st official home game at Brewer High School.
