Saturday, September 17 - 6:05 p.m. CT

Silver Cross Field - Joliet, IL

Championship Series Game #3- (Best of five series: Tied at 1)

JOLIET: RHP #47 JEREMY TIETZE (7-1, 4.61 ERA, 1-0, 1.69 ERA)

RIVER CITY: RHP #10 PRESTON VANCIL (1-0, 4.50 ERA, 1-0, 3.38 ERA)

Last Time Out.

Joliet fell behind 1-0 but back-to-back home runs from Brad Netzel and Hector Pellot combined with outstanding pitching gave the Slammers a 3-1 victory to even the series at one game apiece. With one out in the second, Joash Brodin smacked a double. Then with two away Bobby Burk hit a sharp grounder to third that deflected off Estand right to Brad Netzel. Brodin tried to score on the play. Netzel made a good throw home but the ball deflected off Manz's glove and Brodin scored to put River City up 1-0. Tommy Mendoza settled down after that as he went five innings, scattering five hits, giving up the lone run, walking one and striking out two as he picked up his second win of the playoffs. Chuck Lukanen, Billy Petrick, Brian Smith, and Ryan Quigley combined to throw four scoreless innings. Netzel and Pellot's homers came in the fourth and they never trailed after that.

For Starters.

Rookie Jeremy Tietze is coming off a victory over the Lake Erie Crushers in the finale of the Division Series. He went 5.1 innings, giving up one run on one hit. He did walk six batters and struck out four. This is Tietze's fifth overall start this year after spending most of the season in the bullpen. Against River City he appeared in three games, all out of the 'pen and gave up eight runs in 4.1 innings. Tietze pitched four years at Angelo State.

Containing Holdren.

Frontier League MVP Stephen Holdren is only 1-8 in this series against the Slammers. This is after he torched Southern Illinois over four games (7-15 with three homers).

Comeback kids.

Yesterday was another comeback win for the Slammers, their second of the playoffs and 32nd overall.

Lock 'em down.

The Slammers' bullpen was outstanding again yesterday as they only gave up no runs and only one hit in four innings. Overall in the playoffs the bullpen has surrendered only two earned runs in 18 2/3rd innings.

Pellot Esta Caliente!

Hector Pellot is hitting a league-best .526 (10-19) in the playoffs. 6 of those 10 hits have been doubles and two have been home runs.

Against River City.

The Slammers went 4-2 against the Rascals on the regular season and were 3-0 against River City at Silver Cross Field.

We're talking about playoffs.

Joliet is the only Frontier League expansion team in league history to finish first in their division during the regular season. The Slammers clinched the division title on August 31. The Slammers look to join the Lake Erie Crushers and the Canton Crocodiles as the only expansion teams to win the league title since 1997.

League honors.

Bart Zeller earned the Frontier League's Manager of the Year award and Ryan Quigley was named a post-season all-star. In addition, General Manager John Dittrich and President Bill Waliewski earned Frontier League Executive of the Year honors.

Getting on base.

Brad Netzel ended the season by reaching base in 34 straight games, the longest such streak for a Joliet player this season. He's reached base in all five playoff games so far for the Slammers.

Save me..

Joliet native Ryan Quigley set a single-season Frontier League record with 28 saves and has tallied four so far in the playoffs.
