Senators one up Dillas

July 7, 2004 - Central Baseball League (Central League) - Jackson Senators News Release

Jackson, MS– In the 9th extra inning game the Senators have been involved in this season, Jackson defeated Amarillo 3-2 thanks to solid pitching and defense. Jackson scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the 3rd when Josh Tranum’s single brought in Erick Mejias. Amarillo would tie the game in the 4th on a wild pitch thrown by Ryan Creek that sent home Asdrubel Oropeza from 3rd. The Dillas offense followed the 4th inning at bat with a run in the 5th inning. Leading off the 5th, center fielder Odannis Ayala slammed his 3rd dinger of the year coming off of Creek to give the Dillas the lead.

The score remained 2-1 Dillas until the 7th, when the Sens would tie it up. Erick Mejias had his 2nd of 3 hits in this at bat, scoring Nick Sorensen for the tie. The Senators left the bases loaded in the 7th and neither team was able to score in the next 2 at bats. Reid Casey came on in relief of starter Ryan Creek to throw two 1-2-3 innings in the 9th and 10th. In the bottom of 10, Josh Tranum walked to lead off the inning and Ty Doezie would come in to pinch run. A single by Randall Shelley put runner at the corners, so Simone Peters was intentionally walked to load the bases. With one out, Gerard McCall chopped a 1-2 pitch to 3rd base. Ben Tinius threw to 2nd to force one out, but on the relay to 1st, McCall was safe and Doezie scored. The Dillas used 4 pitchers in the loss, which sets up a rubber game 3 tomorrow. The Sens will have lefty Nick Vandegriff (3-3) on the mound against winless Jason Bernard.
