
Seguin River Monsters Take the First Game of the 2022 Texas Collegiate League Season

In the 75th year of Riverside Stadium, the Victoria Generals open their 14th season with the Texas Collegiate League against the newest member of the league the Seguin River Monsters. The Seguin River Monsters swim out of Riverside Stadium with an 8-3 win after a commanding first inning.
The Seguin River Monsters started the 2022 TCL season with a commanding 4-0 lead in the first. The River Monsters' hitters took advantage of early baserunners. Rilan Quinones singled to the right field to drive in Landen Morrison. Then, a groundout by Jose Gutierrez scored Jacob Elizondo for the second River Monsters run of the first inning The River Monsters would continue to score two more runs in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. Jacob Ruiz added to Seguin's lead with a single in the second to score Quinones. In the fourth inning, Gutierrez would double off the left field wall for a double and another River Monster run. Seguin would add to their lead in the fifth inning with a single by Landen Morrison. The River Monsters added to their lead in the ninth with a single by Victor Jimenez.
The Generals bats woke up in the sixth inning with a two-run bomb by Cole Turney, the first homerun for the Generals 2022 TCL season. Turney continued to hit the ball far, doubling off the left field wall to score the Generals third run in the eighth.
Seguin River Monsters' starter Matthew Johnson went five no-hit innings for his first start of the season. Johnson recorded seven strikeouts, surrendered four walks, no earned runs and received the win. In relief, Jack Lopez recorded one strikeout and gave up three runs in three innings. Out of the bullpen, Dave Wilson pitched one inning giving up two walks and no runs.
Generals' starter Luis Martinez was only able to record two outs in his first outing. Martinez gave up three earned runs on five hits and received the loss. In relief, Colson Geisler went one and a third only giving up one run on one hit and recording two strikeouts. Justin Barry Smith then went two innings surrendering three hits and one earned run. Smith, also, recorded two strikeouts. From the bullpen, Hunter Murray worked through one and two-thirds innings recording three strikeouts and only giving up one earned run. Christian Cienfuegos worked two and two-thirds innings, recorded three strikeouts and gave up one hit. To close out the game, Seve Medrano worked one inning giving up three hits and one earned run.
Wednesday night, come back out to Riverside Stadium as the Victoria Generals take on the Brazos Valley Bombers. Gates open at 6 p.m. with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
