Second Period The Difference In 4-3 Loss To Roadrunners

TOPEKA, KS - A third period comeback fell one goal short on Saturday night at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena.

The Amarillo Bulls rallied from a three goal deficit only to lose 4-3 to the Topeka RoadRunners. It was the Bulls 5th loss of the season and just their third in the South Division. After leaving the first period tied 1-1, the Bulls surrendered three in the second and then mounted a rally that Topeka has witnessed on several occasions. Despite being down a man due to a penalty, the Bulls pulled their goaltender in the final minute looking for the equalizer but couldn't get one past goaltender PJ Bridges. Tim Moore, with his first in the Bulls uniform, Carter Penzien and Roman Ammirato netted markers for Amarillo.

The first five minutes of the opening period was dominated by power play goals. Topeka netted the first goal on a centering feed at the 1:45 mark. Just over two minutes later, the Bulls pulled even when Roman Ammirato scored his eighth on a low shot from Brendan Vetter and Cody Gylling. There was terrific play by both teams in the opening period as the goaltenders were tested. The Bulls outshot Topeka 13-11.

It was a tough second period for the Bulls as they surrendered three goals including two in a short span. The first one was a scramble at the side, while the second one was scored on a play in front. The Bulls tried to get closer on a couple of power play attempts but didn't break through. The RoadRunners rounded out the period scoring with a marker in the final three minutes. Topeka outshot Amarillo 12-9.

The Bulls went to work in the final 20 minutes dominating most of the play. Tim Moore tallied his first of the season when he fired a shot on the power play past the goaltender to get the margin to 4-2. Kyle Gattelaro and Mike Davis earned assists on the play. With less than four minutes remaining, Carter Penzien scooped up the puck beat Bridges to cut the deficit to one goal. Cameron Cooper and Brendan McGuire assisted on goal. It was a fast and furious race to the end of the game with the Bulls coming close on several occasions to pull even. Paul Berrafato made some big saves in the final 20 minutes to keep his team close, one was on a partial breakaway and two others were chances at the side of the net.

The Amarillo Bulls were outshot by the Topeka Road Runners 10-8 in the third period and 33-30 in the game.

Next weekend is a busy one for the Amarillo Bulls with three games in three nights. It starts on Friday and Saturday with a visit to North Richland Hills to face the Lone Star Brahmas at 7:30 pm. On Sunday the Bulls return home for the fourth annual Sonic Sunday where all tickets are free.
