Seawolves Score Victory In Last Minute of Play

Seattle Seawolves News Release

In Bridgeview, Illinois, 30 minutes from the Chicago Loop, the clash between the Seattle Seawolves and Chicago Hounds held so much promise. Both teams were looking to get back to winning ways after defeats the previous weekend, and our veteran Captain Riekert Hattingh was back in action.

While the weather was chilly and the wind effected the kicking game, it was a far cry from the last Seawolves and Hounds match-up. During the 2023 campaign when these two teams last squared off, lightening strikes in the area postponed, then decided the game at halftime.

Last weeks match delivered on its high expectations for a competitive display, from beginning to end. The Hounds would have benefited from another lightening strike.

While Chicago dominated the first half of the match, launching the first try in minutes and scoring another 3 to earn a bonus point, for scoring 4 tries or more in a match, before the end of the first half, it was the Seawolves that showed resilience and mettle, responding by closing the first half with 2 tries of their own from Jade Stighling ('33) and Mack Mason ('39).

The first half was marked by aggressive play by both teams. Each squad lost a player to the sin bin for yellow cards. To the fan learning about rugby, the "sin-bin" is: a seat between where the two teams' sit pitch-side and where staff and replacements are stationed during play, for a yellow-carded player to take a ten-minute rest. After ten minutes, a sin-binned player can return to play. (Rugby World)

Half time score - Seawolves 12 - Hounds 26

The second half was marked by a stout Seawolves defense, not allowing any further points from the Hounds and adding another 2 tries of their own from birthday boy JP Smith and playmaker Sam Windsor.

The result was finalized with a last minute victory from Toni Pulu crossing the line and Seawolves scoring an additional 7 points with a converted try to take the score to 34 - 26 in the final minute.

Both teams ended with a bonus point for 4 or more tries.

The Seawolves return home this week to go up against the Dallas Jackals in our KIDS NIGHT theme. Don't miss an action packed event with curtain raiser, Run With The Pack Youth camp and a halftime egg hunt.
