SeaWolves Battle, Fall to Sockers

Orlando SeaWolves News Release

Orlando, FL - Following a shutout last week, the Orlando SeaWolves, managed to score five against one of the top teams in the Western Conference, but ultimately the San Diego Sockers scored more as they beat the home side 8-5 on Thursday night.

"We continue to be plagued by moments where we give up soft goals," Head Coach Tom Traxler said after the game. "Overall, I think it was better than last Thursday, but we're still struggling to put the whole thing together."

After falling down early 1-0, Ryan Sandige managed to pull Orlando back with his first MASL goal of his career. The two teams traded goals again as Rapha Tobias scored to equalize the Sockers strike moments before. San Diego scored just a few minutes before the half to take a 3-2 lead to the locker room.

Orlando came out of the locker room a bit flat and the veteran Sockers took advantage. San Diego scored three straight to open up a 6-2 lead before Jeff Michaud finally broke the scoring lull with a perfect volley into the top corner. Kraig Chiles would score his third of the night moments later to restore the four-goal lead to the visitors.

The SeaWolves would score two to start the fourth quarter. First Gui Ribeiro notched his first MASL goal off an assist from goalie Fernando Cortes, then Luis Mota tapped in a ball off of a turnover. That would cut the deficit to just two goals, but San Diego would score again minutes later to seal the game away and notch their 11th win of the year.

Next up, the SeaWolves travel to Baltimore to take on the Blast for the fourth time this season on Sunday, February 9th. That game will kick off at 5:05 p.m. and will be broadcast on masl.tv.
