Houston Dynamo FC News Release
Obafemi Martins scored his third goal of the season as the Seattle Sounders overcame a red card and held on for a 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on Saturday at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.
The Dynamo return to Houston to host the Montreal Impact on Saturday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. CT at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Houston gained a man advantage in the 56th minute when Gonzalo Pineda was issued a red card after driving the bottom of his foot into Ricardo Clark's hip.
The Dynamo outshot Seattle 16-5, had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks and made 23 more crosses (32-9), but couldn't beat Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei.
On the winning goal, Seattle capitalized on a turnover in midfield and Clint Dempsey quickly passed to Martins, who turned inside the box and drove a shot into the far side of the net from 12 yards for the important goal.
Houston's best chances included a 20-yard volley from Nathan Sturgis that slipped past the far post, a 25-yard free kick from Giles Barnes that nearly hit the upper corner and a shot from Clark at the top of the box that forced Frei into a save.
Four Dynamo players returned to the starting lineup after international duty: Giles Barnes and Jermaine Taylor (Jamaica), and Boniek Garcia and Luis Garrido (Honduras).
