Florida Seals News Release
[JACKSONVILLE, Fla.] -Another quick start for the Florida Seals equaled a route against their in state rivals. The Seals swam into the Barracudas' Tank and came away with a 5-1 victory. The win was the third straight for the Seals.
Rob Sich started his big night early by opening up the scoring just 2:29 into the game. Sich took a Justin Keller feed and ripped it past Jacksonville (6-8-1) goalie Frank Novello. The Keller assist gave him six straight games with a point.
Seals (7-5-4) Captain Steve Zoryk put the Seals up by two goals just past the halfway mark with his team leading eleventh goal of the season. The Seals continued putting the puck on net and extended their lead when Ryan Rivard put a Casey Handrahan rebound home in the final minutes of the first frame.
The second period was much of the same for the visitors from Kissimmee. Sich scored his second goal of the game when Dominick Dawes found him alone in front of the net. Just 70-seconds later John Gurskis broke free in the Barracuda zone and made the home team pay by lighting the lamp for the seventh time this season.
The Barracudas finally got on the board with less than five minutes to go in the middle period. Erik Lajoie found a streaking Geoff Rollins with a beautiful tape-to-tape pass. Rollins didn't waste the opportunity and ended the Seals shutout bid with his third goal of the season.
The third period came and went with both teams each notching a tally. Lajoie gave the home crowd something small to cheer about with his second point of the night early in the final period. For good measure David Deeves continued his hot streak scoring his seventh goal in the past six games at the 8:44 mark giving the Seals back their four goal cushion.
The win put the Seals in a third place tie with idle Pee Dee. Florida returns home against the intrastate rivals Saturday night at the Silver Spurs Arena for the first of a four game home stand. The first 1,000 fans who arrive for the 7:35 pm puck drop will receive a free Florida Seals trading card set courtesy of First National Bank of Osceola. The game can be heard on Talk Radio 1190 WAMT.
