LAST WEEK:
FRI Mar. 3 Huntsville @ SEALS (6-5 SO loss) 7:35 p.m. Von Braun Center
Florida's return to home ice did not go perfectly as planned. The fans were treated to an exciting contest that featured just about everything hockey has to offer. Huntsville left the Silver Spurs on the good side of the seesaw battle with a 6-5 shootout victory.
The fans saw 11 goals, most in any Seals home game this season, three fights and the first shootout in the Silver Spurs Arena's history. Huntsville jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the Seals mounted their first come back of the night.
Florida never did have the lead in the contest but did fight back to tie the game on four different occasions. Steve Zoryk had a four-point night including his second hat trick of the season. Rob Sich scored two more goals and David Deeves registered three assists.
Jeff Dams scored in the first shootout round for Huntsville. Huntsville goalie Matt Carmichael stood tall in the shootout session stopping all five Seals shooters.
FRI Mar. 4 Columbus @ SEALS (4-3 SO OT WIN) 7:35 p.m. Silver Spurs Arena
Florida got back to their winning ways in an exciting finish Friday night in Kissimmee. After a methodical first two period the teams opened up and gave the fans a very exciting finish.
Columbus held a 2-1 lead entering the third period. The Seals came into the game with a 0-13-0 mark when trailing after 40 minutes this season. The Seals fought back scoring twice in the third period to force the game into overtime.
Both teams were visibly tired after a long weekend of games and a very physical battle on the ice Saturday night. Each teams' goalie elevated their game in the extra five minutes to force a shootout.
Unlike Friday night the Seals scored twice in the shootout, while Terry Denike stopped four of five Columbus shooters to claim the victory. Craig Miller led the Seals with the game tying goal in the third period and the game winning shootout goal giving the Seals the first ever shootout victory in Kissimmee.
