Seals Sign Ryan, Waive Burnes

February 19, 2003 - SPHL (SPHL)
Florida Seals News Release

ORLANDO - The Orlando Seals signed LW Terry Ryan on Wednesday and placed F Ethan Burnes on waivers to make room on the roster. As per league policy, terms of the contract were not released.

Ryan, 26, of St. John's, New Foundland, had a goal and two assists for Orlando during his three-game tryout with the team. The addition of Ryan gives the Zac Boyer-less Seals another veteran talent and proven scorer heading into the ACHL playoffs. Boyer, who had 53 points in 25 games for Orlando, was forced to miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a concussion in early January.

The 6-foot-1, 207-pound Ryan was the eighth overall selection in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft when he was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round. In the 2000-01 season, Ryan played alongside Boyer with Colorado of the West Coast Hockey League and recorded 15 goals and 25 assists in 31 games for the Gold Kings.

Burnes, 25, of Barre, Vermont, recorded three goals and six assists in 19 games since rejoining the Seals lineup Jan. 4, 2003, when Boyer went on the injured reserve. The former University of Southern Maine standout originally started the season with Orlando, playing the first seven games before being waived. The Seals are 22-4 with Burnes in the lineup and 15-8 without him.
