
Seals Open Spring Training

VICTORIA, BC - With just over two weeks until opening day, the Victoria Seals open up their first ever spring training session in Yuma, Arizona today. Camp is scheduled to run from May 7-17 at Desert Sun Stadium in preparation for the start of the 2009 Golden Baseball League campaign.
This year's 35 invitees include three players from British Columbia, and two from the capital region. First basemen Evan Romanchuk of North Vancouver will join a pair of pitchers from Victoria, Mason Scott and Graham Campbell. The group also includes four players who spent last season under contract with Major League Baseball teams, and eleven players who played the 2008 season in the Golden Baseball League. The players selected for the Seals' opening day roster will be making the trip north to Victoria in time for the team's first workout on May 20 at Royal Athletic Park. Victoria will open their inaugural season with a four game series at Telus Field against the Edmonton Capitals on May 21 before travelling to Calgary to take on the Vipers on May 25. Opening night at Royal Athletic park will be Friday, May 29 when the Seals play host to the Long Beach Armada for the first of three games.
