Florida Seals News Release

Orlando – Manatee goaltender Al Rooney stopped 32 shots Thursday night, dimming the Orlando Seals' playoff hopes and lifting the Manatees to a 6-5 win. Orlando remains in fifth place in WHA2.

The Manatees jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on goals from Greg LeColst and Chad Cabana. Jason Elders cut that lead to 2-1 with less than four minutes remaining in the first period. Elders skated in from the blue line and slid a shot just inside the goalpost for his 31st goal of the season.

The Manatees regained their two-goal cushion only 1:02 into the second frame on Cabana's second of the game. Cabana would add two more goals, including the game-winner, to complete his four-goal night.

Mike Fournier pulled the Seals within one at 5-4, deking past the defender and firing an off-balance wrister from high in the slot for his second goal in as many games. Tomas Jelinek tied the game 5-5 in the third on a controversial shot that just trickled past Rooney. The goal judge ruled that it was indeed a goal, giving Jelinek his fifth of the season.

Ryan Anderson and Heath Gordon scored in the second for Orlando, which suffered its third straight loss.

The Seals have two more road games this weekend, playing at Lakeland Friday at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday at Macon, with an early start time of 6:05 p.m. All Seals game are available on the internet at www.IRN.FM.
