Sea Dawgs still focused after loss to Wildcats

Wilmington Sea Dawgs News Release

Wilmington, NC- It's unusual sight to see the Dawgs down by so many points on their usually friendly home court, but tonight the Savannah Wildcats came to play as they handily defeat the Sea Dawgs 99-81.

The Wildcats (6-4), who are the second place team in the CBL standings behind Wilmington, gave the Dawgs fits with their defense tonight. After a close first half that included 9 lead changes and 5 ties, they blew it open in the third.

Savannah forced 10 turnovers by Wilmington, and connected on 5 three points in the third period. This came after the Wildcats missed their first eight three-pointers.

Luckily for Wilmington, they will be in Savannah tomorrow night for a return meeting. Coach Kuhl expects a better performance from his team then.

"We got out hustled, out worked. They took it too us and we didn't respond," said Kuhl. "We get to return the favor in their gym tomorrow, and we will play better."

Former UNCW guard Joe King understands that this is just one game and there is a return game as well.

"Luckily we still play them tomorrow. It's just one game out of the season. We didn't shoot well, but we have to keep shooting and keep shooting," King stated.

This was the Sea Dawgs worst shooting game of the season. They only connected on 30% of their field goals, and an even more dismal 26% on three's. Savannah forced them into 30 turnovers, another unusual characteristic.

Leading the Dawgs for the second straight night was shifty guard Aaron Scott who again scored 22 points and connected on 5 three pointers. Scott is confident that this is a one game mishap and the Sea Dawgs will be ready tomorrow.

"We have to just move on and we can't hold on to it," said Scott. "We get them tomorrow. We have to jump them from the start. We lacked intensity tonight, but that won't happen again."

This loss moves Wilmington to 7-3 for the season, however they are still 1-game ahead of Savannah in the CBL standings. Tomorrow's game will determine first place in the league.
