SD Loyal Beats Orange County SC 2-1 with a Pair of Alejandro Guido Goals

SAN DIEGO - Chula Vista native Alejandro Guido scored a pair of goals to help SD Loyal to a 2-1 win against visiting Orange County SC Wednesday night in the fourth and final match of a month-long homestand at Torero Stadium.

Guido scored his third and fourth goals of the season in the 20th and 45th minute of the Week 17 match between Western Conference rivals. Orange County SC, the defending league champion, got a goal from Milan Iloski (22nd minute) but coach Landon Donovan's team was able to hold onto the victory, earning three more points in the standings.

The win helped SD Loyal (9W-5L-4D, 31 points) finish four-straight home matches with a 3-1 record as it now heads to the Rocky Mountains for its first-ever meeting against Colorado Switchbacks FC on Monday, July 4.

On Wednesday night, it was Guido opening the scoring. The attacking midfielder recovered a Tumi Moshobane shot that squeezed between the legs of Orange County SC goalkeeper Colin Shutler. The ball remained spinning by the goal line when Guido beat a diving Shutler to it and sent in his third goal of 2022.

Two minutes later, Orange County (4W-8L-5D, 17 points) tied the match 1-1 when Iloski headed in a cross by Alex Villanueva.

In the 36th minute, a scuffle broke out between SD Loyal striker Kyle Vassell and Orange County defender Ahmed Longmire that ended with both players wrestling on the ground. Both teams played the rest of the match with 10 men after the two players were sent off with red cards.

Just before halftime, Orange County defender Ian Hoffman took down Nick Moon and was whistled for a penalty kick. Guido then converted from the spot for his second score of the night to give SD Loyal the 2-1 lead.

SD Loyal didn't look back in the second half, keeping Orange County without a shot on target to secure the victory.
