El Paso Locomotive to Play Atlanta United II in First Trip to Georgia, Saturday
June 30, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
El Paso Locomotive FC News Release
EL PASO, Texas - El Paso Locomotive FC (8-6-5, 29 pts., West-4) makes its first trip to Georgia to take on Atlanta United II (4-12-1, 13 pts., East-12) on Saturday, July 2. Kickoff from Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia is set for 5:30 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
El Paso Locomotive FC and Atlanta United II are heading into the weekend off big midweek results. For El Paso, it was a scoreless draw on Wednesday night against Rio Grande Valley FC. It's the first time in Locomotive history it has walked away from H-E-B Park with a point in hand and it was accomplished despite the team being down two men in the final 10 minutes of the match. The road draw puts El Paso Locomotive at eight games undefeated as it continues to hold on to a playoff spot in the second stretch of the season.
Atlanta is coming off its fourth win of the season, claiming three points from a 4-3 victory over Charleston Battery. Atlanta's struggles through the season has left it on the outside looking in on the Eastern Conference, however, the Georgian team has picked up two of its four wins within its last four games. Capable of an upset with fast-paced starts, Atlanta is looking to improve its position on the table in the second half of the 2022 USL Championship season.
Following the 5-0 onslaught over New York Red Bulls II, El Paso Locomotive is 6-1-3 against Eastern Conference opponents - a record it is aiming to improve. Meanwhile, Atlanta is 0-2-1 in three interconference matches. The meeting on Saturday night is crucial for both teams as they begin to turn their attention towards the post-season.
