Sydney- Overage centre Jonathan Brunelle was the big winner at the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles annual Award's Banquet held at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre on Monday night.
The 20 year-old native of Blainville, Quebec was given the Cape Breton Beverages Ltd. Trophy as team's MVP after finishing ninth in league scoring with 30 goals and 55 assists. He also picked up the Casino Nova Scotia Trophy as the Screaming Eagles leading scorer. Brunelle won his third award of the night the Cape Breton University Trophy for top Academic Performer.
Kyle Farrel of Howie Centre was a double award winner The 18 year old second year player was awarded the Bobby Joe Ryan Memorial Trophy donated by Molson Breweries for outstanding sportsmanship. He also earned the 103.5 The Eagle Trophy as the fan's choice winner in balloting which took place during the Screaming Eagles game with Saint John on March 16.
Stephen Woodworth earned the Greg Lynch Memorial Award for leadership and qualities that best represented a Screaming Eagle.
Other award winners include Philippe Trudeau picking up the Rudderham's Source for Sports Trophy as Rookie of the Year. William Carrier the MacLeod-Lorway Insurance Company Trophy as Most Improved Player, Blake Millman won the Tim Horton's Trophy for Outstanding Community Involvement, Sebastien Payette won the Varsity Sportswear Trophy as Top Defenseman and Cory MacIntosh picked up the Jim Hawkins Memorial Bursary for Outstanding Performance by a Screaming Eagles player attending university.
