Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starting pitcher Romulo Sanchez lasted just three innings and gave up two homeruns in the Yankees' 7-3 loss to the Charlotte Knights.

Sanchez allowed four runs on just four hits in the start, but walked five batters while striking out none in his shortest outing since April 15. It was the first time this season that Sanchez failed to strikeout a batter.

After putting one run on the board in the first, the Knights hit back-to-back homeruns in the third inning off Sanchez to put the Knights ahead 4-0.

The Yankees responded in the fifth, leading off the inning with four straight hits. Jesus Montero, Matt Cusick and Greg Golson each singled to load the bases before Colin Curtis hit a base-clearing double to center to cut the Knight's lead to 5-3.

Kei Igawa relieved Sanchez, but failed to keep the Knights from scoring. Charlotte touched up the righty for three runs on three hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Lucas Harrell started for the Knights and pitched well outside of the fifth inning. Harrell tossed 5 2/3 innings of three-run ball, allowing seven hits while striking out five and walking two.

The teams meet again Thursday at 7:15 p.m. Ivan Nova will look to end the Yankees' three-game losing streak, while Carlos Torres will take the hill for Charlotte.
