San Antonio Iguanas News Release

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS...San Antonio Iguanas Head Coach Chris Stewart announced today the team has re-signed Captain Scott Green for the 2002-03 season. The signing of Green marks the first San Antonio off-season player activity. Green has been with the Iguanas since the 1998-99 season and has been the team's captain for the past two seasons.

"We are very pleased to have Scott back with us for another season," said Stewart. "He is a mainstay on and off the ice and an invaluable piece to the puzzle here with the Iguanas."

Green, 31, is coming off a strong season that saw him score 71 points in 64 games, good for second in scoring among Iguanas players and 16th in the Central Hockey League. His 37 goals were most on the Iggys and sixth in the CHL. Green formed one-third of one of the most productive lines in the CHL last season teaming with center Blair Manning and left wing Johnny Brdarovic to accumulate 213 points collectively.

The Richmond, British Columbia native has played 220 of his 366 professional games with the Iguanas, which ranks him fourth on the team's all-time games played list. Green also ranks among the team's all-time greats with 254 points (4th), 124 goals (4th), 130 assists (4th), 11 shorthanded goals (2nd) and 13 game winning goals (4th).

"I have enjoyed watching Scott play over the past few seasons and have always admired his work ethic but last season was even more special as I thought he played his best hockey since I have been coaching the Iguanas," said Stewart. "Our strong record (40-16-8) was indicative of Scott and his dedication to come out and give it 110 percent each and every night"

Stewart also stated that the signing of Green was the first of many that he hoped would continue to bring back the core players of the Iguanas from the past few seasons showing the Iguanas commitment to roster stability.

Green has also been one of the most active Iguanas players in the community serving as the team's spokesman for Big Brothers and Big Sisters and working in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Club of San Antonio to form "Green's Gang", a program that donates 10 tickets to the various branches of the Boys and Girls Clubs for each Iguanas home game.

Iguanas General Manager Rick Carden realizes Green's importance in the community.

"When I think of the Iguanas and community involvement, I think specifically about Scott Green. His contributions have been numerous and have gone above and beyond what would be expected of any professional athlete. Our formation of the Iguanas Charitable Foundation will be a great avenue for Scott to gain the recognition that I know he is too humble to make note of. Players and just people in general like Scott is what makes the city of San Antonio a great place."

As an Iguanas player, Green has been the symbol of consistency playing in every regular season game over the past five season and missing just five regular season games over the past three seasons. He has averaged 39 goals and 38 assists over the course of the past three seasons and over his Iguanas career has scored 22 points (12 goals and 10 assists) in 21 playoff games.

Green joined the Iguanas midway through the 1998-99 season in a trade with Fayetteville. He began the 98-99 season with Tacoma of the West Coast Hockey League where he notched 11 goals and 12 assists in 32 games. His other professional stints were with Pee-Dee (East Coast Hockey League) during the 1997-98 season and Tulsa during the 1996-97 season. Green played 90 games in his collegiate career with Northern Michigan University scoring 19 goals and adding 35 assists in 90 games.

"I am very excited to be once again coming back to San Antonio and the Iguanas," said Green. "The Iguanas have a strong hockey tradition that I feel honored to be a part of."

The Iguanas are currently preparing for the 2002-2003 season, and their eighth season in the Central Hockey League. Season ticket are now on sale and can be attained by calling 210/227-PUCK (4449). Don't forget to keep up with all the latest Iggy news at www.sa-iguanas.com.
