[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-After three weeks on the road, the Scorpions returned home for a 2-1 victory over Amarillo. The win came in front of a sell out crowd of 6,200 and moved the Scorpions into first place.
The Scorpions unveiled their annual "Kids Day Game" and the students from area schools responded loudly all afternoon. With their educational workbooks on their laps and their mouths screaming loud and proud, they helped wake the Scorpions up for the early game and grab an important divisional victory.
Craig Macdonald continued his hot streak scoring both Scorpions goals. His first goal came with less than two minutes remaining in the opening period. Vladimir Hartinger and Mike Prpich both ripped shots wide of the net but Macdonald was there for the rebound.
The Gorillas came out early in the second period and momentarily quieted the students inside the Santa Ana Star Center. Austin Sutter put a rebound home for the only Gorilla goal of the day.
Four minutes later, Macdonald continued his scoring with his second goal of the game and fifteenth of the season. The Milton, Ont. native has now scored a goal in six straight games, tying a Central Hockey League season high.
Scott Reid played his best game in a Scorpions uniform. His 42 saves were a personal season high and gave him his third win as a member of the Scorpions.
