Scorpions Win Defensive Battle Over Odessa

December 28, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Chris Robertson scored late in the third period to propel the Scorpions to a 3-1 victory over Odessa. The win gave New Mexico back-to-back wins over first place teams.

New Mexico got on the board first when Jamie Herrington scored a shorthanded, power play goal. Odessa answered on the same special teams situation as Sebastien Thinel scored his league leading 22nd goal.

Robertson's goal came as he tried to pass the puck to Craig MacDonald. The pass was blocked by Jackalopes' defenseman Ross Moyer and right back to Robertson's stick. The Scorpions forward found goalie Dan McWhinney out of position and put the puck into an open net. Aaron MacInnis added an empty net, power play goal with 5.5 seconds left to seal the victory.

In net, Jason Wolfe was stellar with 36 saves. For the second straight game the Scorpions shut down one of the CHL's best power plays; only allowing one goal in seven chances.
