San Antonio Scorpions News Release
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Thursday, September 25, 2014) - The San Antonio Scorpions have signed forward Giuseppe Gentile for the remainder of the NASL Fall Season announced team President / General Manager Howard Cornfield and Head Coach Alen Marcina today.
"We are creating depth and increased competition at a critical juncture in the season," said Head Coach Alen Marcina. "Giuseppe is a fantastic young talent who is fresh off winning a regular-season championship in USL PRO with Orlando City, and we are excited to add him to our team."
Gentile started 2014 in Major League Soccer on the Chicago Fire's roster before he was loaned to the Charlotte Eagles of USL PRO. The 21-year-old made eleven appearances and scored a goal for Charlotte while on loan, then signed outright with Orlando City. With the USL PRO regular season leaders and soon-to-be MLS expansion franchise, Gentile made another eleven appearances and tallied two goals while helping lead the Lions into the playoffs.
Prior to his professional debut earlier this season, the 6'0 American played college soccer for three years at UNC Charlotte, where he earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors. Gentile was born in Miami, FL, but spent 14 years in Switzerland, carries passports for both countries and speaks English, Italian, German and Spanish.
The Scorpions play their next home match on October 4 at 7:30pm against Ottawa Fury FC. For information on Scorpions tickets call 210-495-8686 or visit sascorpions.com.
