San Antonio Scorpions News Release
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Thursday, October 1, 2015) - The San Antonio Scorpions have signed former Major League Soccer (MLS) and Austin Aztex forward Kris Tyrpak, announced team president/general manager Howard Cornfield and head coach Alen Marcina today. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Tyrpak is a speedy, crafty winger that we know very well from our games against Austin earlier this year," said Marcina. "We were impressed with what we saw in those games. We've had a number of injuries on our frontline recently, so Kris' signing will address that."
The 23-year-old native of Dripping Springs, Texas, made 27 appearances and scored 19 goals playing for the Austin Aztex in the Premier Development League (PDL) in 2012-13. 5'11" Tyrpak was then drafted 40th overall in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by Chivas USA and made nine appearances and scored one goal for the now defunct MLS club. After Chivas USA ceased operations at the end of the 2014 season, Tyrpak was selected by the San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS Dispersal Draft. He re-signed with the Aztex on March 11, 2015, and he scored nine goals and added two assists in 22 matches during Austin's recently completed United Soccer League (USL) season.
The Scorpions play their next home match on Oct. 3 at 7:30pm against the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers. For information on Scorpions tickets call (210) 495-8686 or visit sascorpions.com.
