Yuma Scorpions News Release
(Yuma, AZ) â The Yuma Scorpions announced today that they have signed right-handed rookie pitcher Jared Terrebonne to a contract. Terrebonne is the second player signed from the Scorpions' local player tryouts during the first weekend in April. Terrebonne attended Saturday's tryout session at Desert Sun Stadium in Yuma.
Terrebonne rounds out a 13-man pitching staff that will head to Scorpions' Spring Training, and he'll celebrate his 25th birthday while in camp. Terrebonne hails from Louisiana, and almost of all of his baseball experience has come from within the Pelican State. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Terrebonne spent his junior college days pitching for the Delgado CC Dolphins in New Orleans, and then moved onto Southeastern Louisiana University to finish his college career. While Terrebonne was competing for SLU, he also helped lead the Houma Hogs to the United State Baseball Congress World Series title in 2003, striking out 16 batters in the championship game, and garnering three USBC All-American plaques in as many years.
Terrebonne attended the Scorpions' tryouts at the urging of Scorpions' pitcher Dane DeLaRosa, and certainly made the most of his opportunity. Terrebonne waited for all but one of his fellow pitchers to throw during the tryouts' finale, the intrasquad game, but when it came time for Jared to throw his inning, he didn't disappoint any of the Scorpions' brain trust-most notably Scorpions' Manager Benny Castillo. "He was the best pitcher we saw over the two days," said Castillo. "His pitch speed topped out in the high 80's. He had an above-average curveball that he seemed to throw for a strike whenever he wanted to. It's definitely worth it to take a chance on him to see what he can do in spring training. He should give a lot of our current pitchers a run for their money."
Spring training officially commences May 10th at Desert Sun Stadium in Yuma.
