Yuma Scorpions News Release

(Yuma, AZ) – The Yuma Scorpions announced today that they have released three more players off of their Spring Training Roster. Pitchers Cory Campos and Danny Miller, as well as infielder Morgan Thompson were notified of their release by Scorpions' Manager Benny Castillo this morning. "I thank every single one of these guys for their efforts," said Castillo about the moves. "We're going to try to see if we can find them jobs elsewhere in baseball." In fact, the Fullerton Flyers have already shown interest in Thompson's services, but Thompson will have to head home first to rest his ailing hamstring before trying to catch on with another team.

But not all moves involved subtraction today. The Scorpions also announced the signing of former AAA catcher Jason Dewey today. Dewey-a native of Syracuse, New York-was originally drafted by the Angels in the 1996 MLB Draft, and reached the AA level with the Halos before being traded to the Colorado Rockies at the end of spring training in 2000. It was with the Rockies that Dewey reached his highest level to date in his pro career, playing 36 games for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in 2002. Following the 2002 season, the Texas Rangers selected Dewey in the Rule 5 minor league draft. Dewey spent one year in the Rangers' organization at AA Frisco before becoming a free agent and spending 2004 with two independent Atlantic League teams (Camden and Newark). The moves leave three more cuts to make to get down to the 24-man Opening Day Roster limit.

In other camp news, spring training camp is over for the Japan Samurai Bears and Long Beach Armada, and they have both left Yuma to head to the sites of their Opening Day games. The Fullerton Flyers are expected to follow suit tomorrow morning.

Single-game tickets for all 50 Scorpions' 2005 home games are also on sale at the Scorpions' Offices and at www.yumascorpions.com. Seats are still available for all 50 Scorpions' home games in all three price ranges: $10 box seats, $7 reserved seats, and $5 general admission seats. There are also senior, military, and kids' prices for general admission tickets only. Office hours are from 8:30AM to 5:30PM Monday through Friday. Season tickets-as well as 5, 10, and 20-game mini-plans-remain on sale. Those who are purchasing or have already bought season tickets or mini-plans can still purchase VIP parking passes for the entire season at just $90 per vehicle. The Scorpions' inaugural season officially begins on Thursday, May 26th, as the Scorpions travel to face the Mesa Miners in a four-game set. The game will be broadcast live on the flagship station of the Scorpions, KBLU 560AM, starting at 6PM. The Scorpions will kick off their home season with the Scorpions' Opening Day Fan Fest on Monday, May 30th, when the Scorpions host the Surprise Fightin' Falcons at a special time of 5:05PM. The gates at Desert Sun Stadium will open at 3, and fans that come early to the Scorpions' Opening Day Fan Fest will be treated to: 1) the ‘Guns N' Hoses' charity softball game pitting Yuma Area Law Enforcement against Yuma Area Fire & Emergency Personnel; 2) live music from the band ‘Mogollon'; 3) a flyover performance by the Black Sheep Squadron.
